Book Review: At Home in Every Season

At Home in Every Season is a new book written by my friend Courtney Adamo and her husband, Michael.

Of course, I’m especially happy to carry it because Courtney is dear to me, but that isn’t the only reason I wanted it in the shop.

I think this book would make such a lovely gift for a new parent, or for any family wanting to be a little more intentional about the rhythms of home. So many of our childhood memories are built from the small things we return to again and again: seasonal traditions, crafty afternoons, time outside, favorite recipes, and simple rituals that mark the passing of the year.

Now that my two oldest are away at college, some of the things they miss most are those familiar family rhythms they can’t always be here to take part in. It’s made me realize even more how much comfort and belonging are tucked into seemingly ordinary moments.

The book feels like an ode to the life Courtney and Michael have created together, one that has inspired families around the world. I like that they’ve woven in traditions from their own childhoods. The “skinny pancakes” recipe in the birthday chapter comes from Michael’s childhood, while Courtney shares a favorite autumn activity from growing up on a farm with an apple orchard: picking apples and making homemade applesauce. I love the thought of these little traditions being passed along to another generation.

I also appreciate that the book was thoughtfully designed to lie flat when open, making it easy to keep nearby and actually use while you’re in the middle of making, baking, or creating together.

As for my younger two, who are still at home, I already have my eye on the waxed leaf garland on page 155. We just returned from a long weekend in Telluride with a whole stack of golden aspen leaves, so I think we've found our first project.

To celebrate the release of the Adamos’ new book, Courtney and I are hosting a fall giveaway this week! One lucky winner will receive a copy of At Home in Every Season, a $75 Brimful gift card, and a three-month subscription to Courtney’s Substack, Motherhood Musings.
